Upgrades to Cooroy Intersections – Business Case and Design

Planning is underway for future upgrades at the intersections of Elm and Myall Streets, and Elm and Diamond Streets in Cooroy.

Prior to the 2024 State election, I secured $500,000 for the business case and design works for these Corooy traffic hotspots.

This work builds on preliminary planning completed in 2019, which included valuable community feedback. TMR has now called for tenders to progress the business case and design.

The planning will explore upgrades that:

  • Ease congestion and improve traffic flow during peak times

  • Enhance safety for all road users

  • Improve walking and cycling connections.

On Thursday Oct 23 and Saturday Oct 25, a traffic count was undertaken by TMR to inform future investigations.

These counts help inform project development and intersection design by providing data on vehicle volumes, movement patterns, and peak-hour demands.

This information assists in identifying current congestion issues, assessing safety and operational performance, and ensuring that future upgrades are appropriately designed to meet community needs and safety standards.

TMR is committed to keeping the community updated as the project progresses. Find out more here.

Palmwoods Intersection – Project Update

Early planning is underway to improve safety and traffic flow at the Jubilee Drive, Chevallum Road and Woombye-Palmwoods Road intersections, including integration with the Palmwoods rail overpass.

Prior to the 2024 State Election, I secured $700,000 to fund the business case and design works for this important project.

As part of the planning process, the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will be undertaking traffic surveys at the Woombye-Montville Road and Jubilee Drive intersection in Palmwoods on Feb 5 (weather permitting) from 5am to 7pm.

Cameras will be attached to existing street signs and poles within the TMR road reserve, and there will be no traffic management required.

The surveying activity will be visible to motorists and helps collect data on vehicle volumes, movement patterns and peak-hour demand. This information is critical to identifying congestion and safety issues and ensuring any future upgrades are designed to meet community needs and safety standards.

Current investigations are assessing options to:

  • Improve traffic performance

  • Reduce flooding risks

  • Enhance road safety

The initial planning phase, including identification of a preferred option, is expected to be completed by mid-2026

TMR will continue to engage with the community as the project develops.
